So, who's behind all this practical wisdom? Let me introduce myself.* 

My journey in music has been a diverse and deeply enriching one. After formal studies in classical music at university and jazz at college, I spent years on the road, performing in countless concerts and clubs with various bands.

Following my touring days, I owned and operated a commercial recording studio for a over decade. During that time, I had the privilege of working with a wide array of artists, bands, and songwriters, producing pop, rock, and many other styles of music. I also created an extensive music library, specifically designed for licensing in film, television, and advertising.

Throughout these years, I've had the honor of teaching in numerous schools and colleges, offering private and group lessons in guitar, bass, drums, vocals, and ukulele. I've also taught full courses in music theory, ear training, songwriting, and music production. Today, I continue to create music under various aliases, exploring diverse genres as an artist.

In short, I've spent my life immersed in music – I know what it is, and I know how to make it.

The core philosophy of this blog is to explain everything about music and how to create great music, from that initial spark of an idea to a fully completed, master recording. My goal is to take all these complex principles and present them to you in the simplest, most effective terms possible, so you can immediately apply them to your own work.

Crucially, I'll also highlight what to avoid and what to focus on. Music is a vast ocean of information, and it's incredibly easy to get lost down tangents that lead nowhere, wasting precious time and even potentially discouraging you from continuing your musical journey. I will distill all my knowledge from my varied experiences to explain music in the most straightforward way. The key to navigating this enormous subject is to define your goals and learn only the principles that directly contribute to achieving them.
